Kate Swoboda is a creative force of many folds: artist, photographer, writer. Inspired by the way images and text come together to tell a story, narrative is a theme that shows up across her mediums. "What does this photograph say? Does it make the witness wonder what was happening just before I clicked the shutter, and just after?" she asks. "It's the same idea with a mixed-media piece or a painting--they are like frozen moments that capture a piece of a story. And a novel itself is a series of those moments, threaded like beads on a string, one moment after the next."
Her art and photography have exhibited in Bay Area establishments as part of juried group shows as well as in solo shows, and she regularly books photoshoots with individuals and families. Her writing publications span literary journals, websites, and regional magazines. In 2006, her first novel, Leaving Normal, received an Honorable Mention nod from the Maurice Prize in Fiction. Kate is also a Life and Creativity Coach and has taught at colleges around the Bay Area.
