05/02/2008. Alameda, California.
Book a ticket, pack bags, and take off--for several years this had been one of Kate Swoboda's dreams. After letting go of her teaching position for six months in order to focus on her work as a writer, artist, photographer and life coach, Kate decided that it was time to tour Europe. Since there was plenty of time, the big question was, of course, money.
"I knew I wanted to take this trip, but knew it would be impractical for me to simply 'bum around Europe' at this point in my life, after going freelance and with the economy in a recession. I also knew that every time I thought about going, I felt more alive," Kate says.
With a desire to go that just wouldn't quit, Kate decided to parlay this trip into an exploration of her various creative pursuits. Her photographs of Europe will be combined into a retrospective exhibit to be shown in July 2008, and she was able to interest local papers in a story about her travels, complete with reviews of hotels, restaurants, and sightseeing activities. For readers of her websites who also happen to live abroad, she will be doing portrait photoshoots as she stops in their cities.
The trip will start in London on May 7th, and from there Kate will travel to Paris, Rome, down through the Amalfi coast--Positano, Amalfi, Atrani--and then up to Tuscany, hitting Lucca, Cortona, Montepulciano before going to the Western side of Italy to see Cinque Terra and Milan. From there, it's back to London and then back to the states on June 4th, 2008.
